I'm sure they could have, just as well as there are many good-hearted individuals who are not religious in any way. But for those particular Christians, the bible was their guide and their faith was an incentive, and the product was a good person. It could happen many other ways with many other inspirations, but for them, it happened through their beliefs (Christianity). I know, as well, that there are others who will use a religion for negative -- evil -- purposes, whether it's setting themselves up on a pedestal, becoming hypocritical, hiding under their assumed cloak of "goodness", or targeting non-believers in degrading or violent ways. But that is a problem with the distorted misconstrusion of select groups and individuals, rather than the religion itself. If the religion was the problem, those truly good people would have never come to exist, right? Many might not agree with the religion's teachings at all.. but for those people who do... respect must be given. if someone doesn't want Christians to look down on them, or preach about how they are "saved from damnation" (and i can tell you, true Christians should not be like that), than that person has to give that respect back too... by not saying "you believe in a bunch of crap" or stuff along those lines. Respect from both parties... all i'm trying to say.
